Short how-tos for life on NewEarth. Replace <name> with a player's Minecraft name.

How NewEarth works

The basics, in plain words. Great to read together with a parent.

Protect your builds

In Survival, a land claim keeps your stuff safe. Only you, and friends you trust, can change things inside it.

Where claims work

  • Claims work only in the main Survival world (the overworld).
  • The Nether and the End have no claims. Builds there can't be protected.
  • Creative uses plots instead. Only the plot owner and players they trust with /p trust can build there.

Only claimed land is safe. Anything you build outside a claim is not protected. Claim your land!

Your free starter claim

Place your first regular chest in Survival and you get a 9x9 claim around it, automatically. This only happens if you don't have a claim yet. Barrels and trapped chests don't count.

Claim blocks

  • 1,000to start
  • +200every hour you play
  • 80,000most you can have
  • 1 claim block = 1 square of ground. A claim goes all the way from the sky down to bedrock.
  • Admins can give bonus blocks.
  • Give up a claim and you get all its blocks back.
  • Make as many claims as you like.
  • Smallest claim: 5 blocks wide and 100 blocks in area (like 10x10).
  • Claims expire after 180 days if the owner doesn't play.

Make a claim on Java

  1. Hold a golden shovel.
  2. Right-click one corner of your land.
  3. Right-click the opposite corner. Done!

Resize: right-click a corner with the shovel, then right-click the new spot.

Look around: hold a stick and tap to see who owns land and where the borders are.

  • /subdivideclaims

Splits a claim into smaller areas.

Make a claim on Bedrock

Bedrock players should use these commands. They work on Java too.

  • /claim <radius>

Makes a claim centered on you. The smallest radius is 5, which makes an 11x11 claim.

  • /extendclaim <blocks>

Grows your claim in the direction you are facing.

  • /abandonclaim

Deletes the claim you are standing in. /unclaim works too.

  • /abandonallclaims

    Deletes all of your claims.

  • /claimslist

Shows your claim blocks and your claims.

Let friends help

Stand inside your claim, then type one of these.

Claim trust commands
CommandWhat it does
/trust <name>Build, break and change anything.
/containertrust <name>Use chests and other containers, animals and crops.
/accesstrust <name>Use buttons, levers, beds, fence gates and lecterns.
/permissiontrust <name>Trust other players too.
/untrust <name>Takes their trust away.
/trustlistShows everyone you've trusted.
/trust publicOpens your claim to everyone. Careful!

Bedrock players: their names start with a dot, for example /trust .Name.

What a claim protects

Players you haven't trusted can't:

  • Break, place or change blocks, signs or crops
  • Open containers: chests, barrels, furnaces, hoppers, shulker boxes, anvils, beehives, cauldrons and more
  • Touch item frames, armor stands or paintings
  • Hurt animals or lead them away, horses too
  • Hurt your pets
  • Use buttons, levers, beds, fence gates or lecterns
  • Throw ender pearls into your claim

The border is tough too. Hoppers outside can't pull items out. Pistons can't push across the border. Explosions and fire never damage claims.

Heads up! Wooden doors and trapdoors can be opened by anyone, even inside a claim. Want to keep people out? Use an iron door with a button.

Safe everywhere, even without a claim:

  • Your death drops stay yours.
  • Nobody can use lava or flint and steel near other players.
  • Endermen and other mobs can't grief blocks or trample crops.
  • Fire is turned off.

Chat and parent unlock

Chat is open for everyone from their first join!

Your chat only gets locked if you're muted. That locks chat, private messages (/msg), mail, signs and books. After the mute ends, it stays locked until a parent unlocks it:

  1. Type /chatcode. The game shows you a code.
  2. A parent texts that code to the number shown in the game.
  3. Chat unlocks automatically. Admins check the number.

Any later mute locks it again until a parent unlocks it again.

  • /chatcode

    Shows your code.

The number is shown only inside the game, not on this website.

Chat and Discord: Game chat and our Discord #general channel are connected. Everything is filtered both ways, and only verified members can talk from Discord into the game. Private messages (/msg), mail and staff chat never go to Discord.

Need help? Use /report

Something wrong? Tell the admins with /report.

  • /report <what happened>

Example: /report someone broke my house

/helpme and /reportplayer work too.

  • Works on Java and Bedrock.
  • Works even if your chat is locked or you are muted.
  • Send one every 60 seconds, up to 10 a day.

Only admins see it. Your report includes where you are, a map picture of the area, and the chat from 5 minutes before and after.

Cheating

Common cheats are blocked and caught. No anti-cheat is perfect, so admins keep watch too. Suspicious stuff goes privately to the admins.

It catches things like:

  • X-ray (hidden ores turn into silly fake blocks)
  • Flying
  • Speed
  • Reach (hitting from too far away)
  • Kill aura
  • Auto-clickers
  • Hitting through walls
  • Fast building or towering (scaffold)
  • Breaking blocks too fast (nuker)

If we can tell exactly which cheat someone tried:

  • Everyone in the game sees an alert, with a funny line.
  • The same call-out is posted in the Discord #general channel, naming the player and the cheat. No location is shared.
  • They're marked as a CHEATER for 15 minutes, with a countdown bar everyone can see. It pauses while they're offline.
  • For a week, the server announces it every time they log in. Cheat again and the week starts over.

Every catch is also reported privately to the admins on Discord.

Not worth it! Read the Busted! box in the rules.

Playing on Java and Bedrock

Play on both editions? An admin can link your Java and Bedrock accounts. Then you're the same player on both, with the same claims, homes and items.

Admins do every link. Players can't link accounts themselves.

Best to link before playing much on Bedrock. Use the link request form.

Trading and barter shops

NewEarth has no money of any kind. Players trade, barter or give items. Emeralds are just an item.

Trade with a friend

  1. Stand near your friend (within 10 blocks) and type /trade <name>.
  2. They type /trade accept to open the trade window.
  3. Put what you want to give on the left side. Their offer shows on the right.
  4. You both click the green Confirm button. After a 3-second countdown, the items swap.

If anything changes, you both need to confirm again. Giving a gift? Put your items in and leave the other side empty.

  • /trade <name>

Asks a player near you to trade.

  • /trade accept

    Opens the trade window.

  • /trade deny

Says no to a trade request.

  • /trade cancel

Stops a trade. Everyone gets their items back.

  • /trade toggle

Turns trade requests off, or back on.

Trading works in Survival. Bedrock players: their names start with a dot, for example /trade .Name.

Barter shops

Trade with people even while you're offline. Put a chest or barrel in your own land claim, then put a sign on it:

  • Line 1: [Barter]
  • Line 2: what your shop gives, like 1 saddle ->
  • Line 3: what you want for it, like 4 iron ingot

Put the items in the chest. Payments go into the chest too. To close the shop, break the sign.

Buying: tap the shop sign, then tap it again to trade. It works while the owner is offline.

  • /shops

    Lists all barter shops.

  • /shops find <item>

Finds shops with that item, like /shops find saddle.

  • /shops mine

    Lists your own shops.

/pay and /bal are turned off, because there is no money to pay with.

Homes

Save up to 3 homes and jump back to them any time.

  • /sethome <name>

Saves a home where you are standing.

  • /home <name>

    Takes you to that home.

  • /homes

    Lists your homes.

  • /delhome <name>

    Deletes a home.

  • /spawn

    Takes you to spawn.

Teleport requests

Ask a friend before you teleport. They have to say yes.

  • /tpa <name>

    Asks to go to them.

  • /tpahere <name>

Asks them to come to you.

  • /tpaccept

    Says yes to a request.

  • /tpdeny

    Says no to a request.

Stand still for 3 seconds while the teleport warms up. Then wait 30 seconds before the next one.

Other handy commands

  • /report

Something wrong? Tells the admins right away, in private.

  • /msg

Sends a message to one player.

  • /mail

Leaves a message for someone to read later.

  • /list

    Shows who is online.

  • /afk

Lets others know you are away.

Admins can see messages too, just like chat.

Animal breeding

Feed two animals of the same kind their favorite food to get a baby: wheat for cows and sheep, carrots for pigs, seeds for chickens, and golden carrots or golden apples for tamed horses.
